CB4 CONDENSATION BOARD
INSTALLATION GUIDELINES
How to install on sidewalls.
Install GreenGuard
®
CB4 vertically or horizontally on a
sidewall using the following steps:
A. To install vertically
1. Measure the length of sheet
required and pre-cut each sheet
to the desired length.
2. Install each sheet starting with
attachment at the top of the wall
and proceed down the wall.
3. Use
1
/
2
" staples or self-tapping
screws (for metal framing) to attach
CB4 to the girts, with spacing at approximately 12" on center.
B. To install horizontally
1. Snap a chalk line along the length of the wall to establish a
straight edge before installing the first course of CB4. The line
should be positioned so that approximately 3" of it extends
below the top of the foundation.
2. Attach the board by starting with the first course at the lower
corner with the first 2' x 4' panel wrapped around the corner.
The top edge of CB4 should be aligned with the chalk line,
resulting in a 3" overlap of the foundation.
3. Unfold the bundle to the right along the wall to the adjacent
corner. Install the upper course(s) once the first course has
been installed.
4. Use
1
/
2
" staples or self-tapping screws (for metal framing)
to attach the board to the girts, with spacing at approximately
12" on center.
5. Continue to work along the wall, attaching the board while
unfolding the bundle or pre-cut sheet.
6. Tape the seams using the steps under the “How to Tape
Seams” section.
How to install on the bottom side of roof
trusses.
1. Measure the distance from
the top edge of the wall to
the roof ridge and cut a sheet
of CB4 to the desired length.
2. Attach CB4 to the bottom of
the rafters or purlins using

staples or self-tapping screws
(for metal framing) spaced approximately 12" on center.
3. Continue installing adjacent courses of CB4 parallel to the
previous courses.
4. Tape the seams using the steps under the “How to Tape
Seams” section.
How to install over roof
purlins.
Install GreenGuard CB4 parallel or
perpendicular over roof purlins using
the following steps:
1. After trusses are set, make a final check to ensure that the
trusses have not been pulled out of line.
WARNING: The CB4 surface can be slippery, so care should be taken when standing or
walking across it. Appropriate safety precautions for working on roofs should be taken to
prevent falls.
2. Start at one end of the roofing framework to begin installation
of the CB4 sheets. CB4 can be installed using one of the
following methods:
A. To install parallel to the purlins CB4 is designed to allow for all
seams to be aligned with purlin locations so that no seams are
visible from the building interior. The 4' width of CB4 is attached
to the purlins that run parallel to the roof ridge (typically spaced
either 2' or 4' apart). CB4 can be attached to wood purlins using
staples that penetrate the purlin a minimum of
1
/
2
" or can be
attached to metal purlins using minimum
1
/
2
" long self-tapping
screws. The seams on the top, green side of CB4 can be
overlapped or butted together and taped to prevent
condensation. (Contact Pactiv Building Products for a list of
acceptable tape products.)
B. To install perpendicular to the purlins, CB4 is installed by
aligning the sheets perpendicular to the purlins so that the
length of the sheet extends toward the roof ridge and each CB4
fold is located on a purlin (every 2'). CB4 can be attached to
wood purlins using staples that penetrate the purlin a minimum
of
1
/
2
" or can be attached to metal purlins using minimum

/
2
"
long self-tapping screws. The seams on the white, interior side
of CB4 can be overlapped or butted together and taped to
prevent condensation. (Contact Pactiv Building Products for a
list of acceptable tape products.)
3. Continue working along the roof, installing consecutive CB4
sheets parallel to adjacent sheets, making sure that all seams
are overlapped or butted together and taped. (Refer to the
“How to Tape Seams” section.)
IMPORTANT: Use caution when walking across the roof where CB4 has already been
installed, taking care to step on supported locations only. (Use fastener penetrations as
a guide or use a chalk line to indicate supported locations.)
How to tape seams.
1. All CB4 seams should be butted together. Contact Pactiv
Building Products to obtain a list of approved tapes.
(DO NOT USE DUCT TAPE.)
2. All surfaces should be clean and dry prior to installing the tape
in accordance with the tape manufacturer’s instructions. Use
a tape width that is sufficient to cover the seam between
adjacent sheets.
3. When applying the tape, use a squeegee or other flat edge tool
to press the tape against the CB4 to ensure a tight seal.
Taping seams may not always be necessary in buildings where
condensation is not a concern. Overlapping edges or installing
edges behind girts or purlins is sufficient. But, in buildings used to
house animals or to store food, seed, or vegetables, the humidity
is higher and taping seams is recommended.
